Following the recent statement of Diezani Alison-Madueke about yahoo boys, the Ijaw-Women Connect (IWC) has said that it would not stand by and watch the former minister of petroleum resources be misquoted and insulted by the press.
Ms. Rosemary John-Oduone, the president of IWC-Worldwide, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, August 17.
According to ThisDay, the president IWC-Worldwide said Allison-Madueke's talk was neither on, nor about, yahoo boys, adding that her recent speech was frank and audacious.
John-Oduone explained that the former minister's speech addressed the decay of fatherhood in Ijaw land as young men fall into tragic circumstances in life without the strong support of a father-figure.
She went on to note that they will not allow the press or any organization to victimize any Ijaw woman especially Diezani.
The IWC leader stated: “The attention of the Ijaw-Women Connect (IWC) has been drawn to the several articles and coverage of our beloved and dear sister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke’s presentation at the inaugural global virtual conference of the Ijaw Women Connect, in partnership with the Ijaw-Nation Development Group (INDG), on Friday 7th August 2020.
“We shall never allow the press or indeed any organization to victimize any Ijaw woman especially our sister who we coaxed out of solitude to demonstrate the character and strength of the Ijaw woman at the conference.”
John-Oduone maintained that the virtual event was for the Ijaw people, to address issues, and was not by any means set-out to be a platform for national discourse.

Legit.ng recalls that the former minister of petroleum resources said internet fraudsters, also known as Yahoo boys, have become role models in Nigerian society.
Diezani reportedly made the statement when speaking at a virtual event organised by the Ijaw national development group on Friday, August 7.
In the video, Diezani stated that an irresponsible boy will end up becoming an irresponsible man, noting that such an occurrence has become a vicious cycle.
The former minister pointed out that societal values have collapsed mainly because of weak family bonds caused by broken homes. She said there are no shortcuts to progressing in life, adding that only hard work could guarantee success.
Meanwhile, Nigerian singer Folarin Falana also known as Falz TheBahdGuy had reacted to the statement of the former minister of petroleum resources about yahoo boys.
The Bop Daddy crooner was one of the celebrities who slammed the former petroleum minister for her comment about yahoo boys. Taking to his official Instagram page, Falz said that Diezani is on the run and she is still running her mouth.
He noted that she should also be called a yahoo girl. Other celebrities like popular OAP Toolz and media personality Bolanle Olukanni have also been outspoken about Diezani's statement as they noted that she is not worthy of having such a conversation.
