Pep Guardiola failed to inspire Manchester City to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League for the third consecutive time.
Manchester City were knocked out of the Champions League by French side Olympique Lyon in yet another extraordinary quarter-final match in Portugal.
It was a fight to finish with the French side opening the scoring in the 24th minute through Maxwel Cornet, but Kevin De Bruyne equalized for the Citizens in the 69th.
In the 79th minute, Lyon stole the ball from the half way line and Houssem Aouar fed a sleek ball which was met and slotted home by Moussa Dembele.

There was a brief check for a possible offside and foul for the goal but the goal eventually stood. Lyon 2, Manchester City 1.
Perhaps the moment of the game came late on when Raheem Sterling found himself with the goal at his mercy but somehow, the England forward blazed over the bar.
That miss by Sterling seemed to seal City’s fate as barely a minute later and another swift Lyon attack saw substitute Dembele secure his brace after an error from goalkeeper Ederson. It ended; Manchester City 1-3 Lyon.
Implication if the result means that since progressing from his first seven Champions League quarter-finals as a manager with Barcelona and FC Bayern München, Pep Guardiola has been eliminated in each of his three appearances at this stage of the competition with Manchester City.
The Citizens crashed out of the tournament in the quarter-final in three consecutive seasons, 2017/2018, 2018/2019 and 2019/2020.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that it will be the first time since the 2005 that both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature in the semifinal of the prestigious competition.
Messi’s Barcelona were humiliated in the Champions League quarter-final after German champions Bayern Munich hit them 8-2.
Ronaldo’s Juventus also crashed out of this season’s tournament in the round of 16 following their loss to French side Lyon.
Messi and Ronaldo have made their mark in the history of the competition with the Argentine winning it four times with Barcelona.
