The operation against insurgency in the northeast recorded another vital victory as troops of the Operation Lafia Dole said it has killed scores of Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.
The Nigerian military made this known in a statement by its coordinator of media operation, Major General John Enenche, on Friday, August 14, which was obtained by Legit.ng.
Enenche said the operation, which was carried out on Thursday, August 13, also saw the houses and strongholds of the ISWAP terrorists at Tongule in the Lake Chad area of northern Borno destroyed.
He added that the airstrikes were conducted following credible Human Intelligence (HUMINT) reports indicating terrorists’ activities in the village.
"Accordingly, following confirmatory Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, which showed presence of a sizable number of the ISWAP elements at designated locations in the settlement, the Air Task Force dispatched a force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets to attack the location.
"The NAF Jets took turns in engaging the location scoring devastating hits on the designated targets leading to the destruction of the structures as well as the neutralization of several ISWAP fighters," part of the statement read.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that about four men suspected to be arm suppliers to Boko Haram terrorists have been killed by operatives of the Niger Republic army.
The suspected terrorists, who were said to be Libyans, were busted and annihilated on Sunday, August 9, on their way to northeast Nigeria.
According to a report, Nigerien forces intercepted the arms suppliers before reaching the border that leads to Nigeria.
Recall that the atrocities of Boko Haram insurgents and ISWAP have brought a nightmare on some Nigerians living in the northeast and northwest regions of the country.
Since the emergence of Boko Haram as a full-fledged terrorist group in Nigeria, they have continuously wreaked havoc on villages, killed people and left thousands of people displaced.
