The Rivers state government said it has not received N78 billion refund from the federal government contrary to the reports being peddled by some people.
Speaking in a statement on the refund, Paulinus Nsirim, who is the state commissioner for information and communications, said only the approval for the N78 billion was made by the federal government.
Nsirim, who spoke through his media aide Soibi Max-Alalibo, said there are many misconceptions on the fund which need to be cleared.
The commissioner, however, added that if the fund is paid into the Rivers state account by the federal government, it will be made public.
“As at today, the government is yet to receive the N78 billion. When the money is released it cannot be a secret because such information cannot be hidden in government circles.
“If the money is received today, it will be made public. So, peddling propaganda that the money has been received by mischief makers is unfortunate," the commissioner said.
Nsirim assured that the money will be judiciously channelled towards top projects by the Rivers state government.
Earlier Legit.ng reported that Governor Wike praised President Muhammadu Buhari for approving refund of the sum of N78.9 billion to the Rivers state government.
The money was approved as the cost of execution of the federal government's road projects in the state.
The governor also commended Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for the support he provided to the state.
"I wish to, therefore, appeal to Mr. President to kindly oblige us with a State visit when invited, to see what we have accomplished for the state and our people with the money," the governor said.
