Babatunde Oke, the council chairman of the Onigbongbo local government area in Lagos, has been reported dead after going through complications from coronavirus.
Reports have it that Oke died on Wednesday, August 12, at St. Nicholas Hospital on Lagos Island, PM News reports.
Before he was moved to the hospital, the two-term council chairman was receiving treatment at the Gbagada isolation centre.
Until his death in the early hours of Wednesday, Oke was a staunch member of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
He is the second Lagos state council boss to have passed away in less than two months.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the APC had lost one of its top chieftains in Kaduna state, Alhaji Umar Gana.
Gana, who served as the coordinator and member of the APC's campaign council during the 2015 and 2019 presidential elections respectively, died on Tuesday, July 21, after a protracted illness.
President Muhammadu Buhari reacted to Gana's death via a statement by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu.
In the statement made available via his verified Twitter handle, Shehu said President Buhari condoled with Gana’s family, the APC, the government and people of Kaduna state.
“Alhaji Gana’s enormous contributions towards the successes recorded by the APC at the 2015 and 2019 presidential and governorship polls, during which he served as coordinator and member of the campaign council respectively,” the president recalled.
The president also prayed that God will comfort Gana's family and grant rest to his soul.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the death of Mallam Isa Funtua, a longtime friend and associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, caused much pain to the Nigerian leader.
President Buhari in reaction to Funtua's passing condoled with the deceased's family, government, and people of Katsina state over the death of the Second Republic minister.
This was disclosed in a tweet by Bashir Ahmad, a personal assistant on new media to the president, via his verified Twitter handle, @BashirAhmaad.
