Yakubu Aiyegbeni has insisted that Sunday Oliseh was a better defensive midfielder than John Obi Mikel during his playing day with the Super Eagles.

The former Middlesbrough and Everton striker was countering Daniel Amokachi's claim that Mikel is the greatest Nigerian player ever.

But according to Aiyegbeni, the former Chelsea star is not even the greatest defensive midfielder that wore the green and white colours of the national team.

Instead, the Yak believes Oliseh is the greatest to have played for Nigeria while Mikel has more trophies than the former Super Eagles captain.

“Mikel is the greatest because of the trophies he has won. Don’t get me wrong, Mikel is a very, very good player [but] there’s no way you can compare Mikel with Sunday Oliseh. No chance, no chance,” Complete Sports quoting Aiyegbeni.

“Mikel did so well in his career in Chelsea, he won a lot of trophies [but] there is nowhere in the world you can compare Mikel and Sunday Oliseh.

“Oliseh is a better player than Mikel. Mikel won a lot of trophies but Oliseh was unbelievable,” the former Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers star.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Victor Osimhen has been described by Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh as the next Rashidi Yekini.

The 21-year-old has been a sensation in European football since his arrival at Ligue 1 side Lille, scoring 18 goals in the 2019-20 campaign.

And Oliseh believes Nigeria has finally found a striker who has the same qualities of his former teammate Yekini.

Legit.ng also reported that Ahmed Musa has finally explained how himself, Mikel Obi, Elderson Echiejile and Emmanuel Emenike went to beg former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh after he collected the armband from Vincent Enyeama in 2015.

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama had issues with Sunday Oliseh five years ago in the Super Eagles which forced the legendary goalkeeper out of the team.

The issues then made Sunday Oliseh to take the captain armband from Vincent Enyeama and gave it to Ahmed Musa in what was a controversial situation.
