Legit poll: Diezani is not in a position to condemn dying social values - Nigerians

Two polls recently conducted by Legit.ng have indicated that majority of Nigerians do not think the former minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, is in a position to condemn Nigeria's dying social values.

The former Nigerian minister was recently spotted in a video circulating on social media where she stated that internet fraudsters, also known as Yahoo boys, have become role models in Nigerian society.

Diezani, speaking at a virtual event organised by the Ijaw national development group on Friday, August 7, about how yahoo boys, said they reinforce negative societal norms.

She pointed out that societal values have collapsed mainly because of weak family bonds caused by broken homes.

Many Nigerians expressed shock that the former minister who is facing allegations of corruption was speaking on a matter like fraud.

However, two polls have shown that the majority of Nigerians hold the same views on the topic. In a poll conducted by Legit.ng on Facebook, most people are of the opinion that Diezani is not in the position to lament about the decay in societal values in the country.

Of over 699 people who participated in the poll, 77% believe that there is no difference between the former minister and yahoo boys while 23% are of the opinion that she is in a position to condemn internet fraudsters.

The poll showed a similar result on Twitter where 67.6% of the 457 people who voted were of the opinion that Diezani should not be condemning Nigeria's dying social values. 24.3% thought otherwise while 5.5% showed indifference.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Nigerians have reacted to a video in which Nigeria’s former petroleum minister lamented that the youth were looking up to internet fraudsters, popularly called Yahoo Yahoo.

In reactions, Nigerians on social media mocked the former minister for preaching what she did not practice.

Dele Farotimi, in his reaction, said it is funny that people who benefitted from some proceed of stolen commonwealth are now preaching morality.

In a related development, Nigerian singer Folarin Falana also known as Falz TheBahdGuy also reacted to the statement of the former minister.

The Bop Daddy crooner was one of the celebrities who slammed Diezani for her comment about yahoo boys.

Taking to his official Instagram page, Falz said that Diezani is on the run and she is still running her mouth. He noted that she should also be called a yahoo girl.
