Chelsea have reportedly reignited their interest in signing Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this summer.
The Blues have been shopping for a new number as a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga who had a very poor outing last season despite the world-class fee they paid to sign him.
Although Frank Lampard has also been linked with a move to land Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak, Ajax keeper Andre Onana, Manchester United's on-loan keeper Dean Henderson among others.
However, those might cost him a fortune having spent some money on signing Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech already.
The former midfielder has now shifted his focus on signing Schmeichel who has also been on the Red Devils' radar as reported by Daily Mirror quoting The Times.
Lampard hopes bringing the goaltender might solve his problems in that department going into next season.
After failing to deliver at Stamford Bridge, the world's most expensive keeper might be shown the exit doors as soon as possible.
The Spaniard has been dropped for veteran keeper Willy Caballero in recent months and his career in west London looks to be over.
Daily Star claims Schmeichel will consider a move to Old Trafford over that of Stamford Bridge to continue his father's legacy but this will be subjected to the intents of the clubs.
With De Gea not also at his best for United at the moment, there are suggestions that Henderson could be recalled from his loan spell at Sheffield United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that he has not lost confidence in De Gea but the club appears to be planning ahead in case the situation gets worse.
Meanwhile, Schmeichel has proven himself even at the King Power Stadium after helping them win the Premier League title against all odds in 2016.
The 33-year-old joined the Foxes from Leeds United in 2011 and has played 339 league matches for the club.
Though he is in no haste to dump the Foxes, the opportunity of playing in the Champions League next term might persuade him to make the move.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea seem to have agreed to a massive deal with super winger Kai Havertz for him to make a move to Stamford Bridge from German side Bayer Leverkusen.
This latest development will come as a cheering one for Blues' fans who are currently waiting to see the players Frank Lampard would sign this summer.
Frank Lampard's men failed to win any title at the 2019/20 Premier League season in which they also lost the FA Cup final against Arsenal.
