- John Stones emerges top target for Chelsea and Arsenal this summer
- Blues boss Lampard appears to have made an initial offer of about £20m for the defender
- Manchester City have already signed a replacement for the defender whose deal expires in 2022
Chelsea are said to have initiated negotiations with Manchester City over the transfer of centre-defender John Stones this summer.
The former Everton player has fallen out of favour with his present manager Pep Guardiola and the Spaniard is ready to offload him.
Nathan Ake's arrival is another indication that the 26-year-old's time at the Etihad Stadium has come to an end.
Stones deal with City expires in 2022 after joining them from the Toffees in 2016 for a deal around €56 million. He has only featured in 24 games across competitions so far this campaign.
However, SunSport quoting The Mirror claim the Blues have launched a £20 million bid for the Englishman as Frank Lampard continues to strengthen his team for the coming season.
The former Derby County boss believes bringing Stones to Stamford Bridge will help revive his dwindling career.
But, they will battle with West Ham United handler David Moyes who is also interested in the defender, while Mikel Arteta is also planning to reunite with the player.
Chelsea's defence faced so many struggles in the outgoing season despite managing to secure a Champions League spot at the end of the day.
Meanwhile, Gunners legend Paul Merson, recently claimed Stones would be better off joining Chelsea instead of the North Londoners.
He told Sky Sports: "I’d go and get John Stones for that, and play him in the middle of the three. Then I’d say have Antonio Rudiger and Christensen either side of them.
"Chelsea love to play out the back, they roll it out every time, so you need someone unbelievably good on the ball.
"If you have pace around them, I think it will help Chelsea; I think Stones would be a great buy, and he has to play in a three."
Legit.ng earlier reported that Barcelona are planning to launch a £14 million bid for want-away Manchester City starlet Eric Garcia this summer.
The 19-year-old defender was said to have told his manager Pep Guardiola he is not interested in extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium.
Stats reveal the teenager has just one year left on his current deal with the former Premier League champions having joined them from the Barca youth team three years back.
