Legit poll: How we'll feel if Saraki, Atiku, Kwankwaso defect to APC - Nigerians

The defection of Yakubu Dogara, the former speaker of the House of Representatives, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) came as a terrible shock to many Nigerian political experts.

The decision of the prominent lawmaker met with a lot of mixed reactions from members of both political parties.

An online Legit.ng poll has revealed how many Nigerians will feel if politicians like Bukola Saraki, Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso defect back to the ruling party.

Strangely enough, most Nigerians on Twitter, about 74.7% of them, felt indifferent to the possibility. They won't be surprised if this happens as Nigerian politicians have mastered the act of switching parties.

While only 6.4% indicated that they will be surprised, 17.6% of social media subscribers do not believe that this will ever happen.

A Twitter user, by the online name Yomi Thomas, said that if this set of Nigerian politicians join the APC, the ruling party will meet its doom.

Another Nigerian, Sobair Olawale, said that it will make no sense for PDP bigwigs to join a crumbled house like the APC.

The case is much similar on Facebook where many Nigerians seem not to be surprised over the possibility because most of them believe that even both parties can merge and become a coalition.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that constituents of Dogara had pledged their support for Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi.

The constituents, led by the PDP leaders on Tuesday, July 28, declared that despite Dogara's defection to the APC, they will remain loyal to the governor both now and in future elections.

The PDP supporters were from communities of Dass, Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency.

The development is contained in a statement released by the governor's special assistant on new media, Lawal Muazu.

Governor Mohammed, in reaction, expressed gratitude to the constituents for their solidarity move and firm support.

The governor denied allegations made against him by Dogara, referring to them as false and unverifiable. Added to this, Governor Bala challenged the former speaker for overpaid contracts awarded in his constituency.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the lawmaker had decamped from the PDP to the APC. This was revealed on Friday, July 24, by the acting chairman of the party, Mai Mala Buni.

The news came after Dogara alongside Buni met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
