James Rodriguez is set to make a sensational move to Real Madrid's rival Atletico Madrid for just £13.5million, reports from Spain claim.
The Colombian's future at the Santiago Bernabeu remains in doubt despite showing glimpses of his quality, particularly in his early years at the club
The 29-year-old's at the performances at the 2014 World Cup earned him a move to the Spanish capital.
However, the former Monaco midfielder has failed to settle down in Zinedine Zidane's squad and does not look like he would be guaranteed a place in the first-team in the future.
According to Spanish news outfit El Golazo de Gol, Rodriguez is now ready to move to Los Blancos' city rivals Atletico.
The reports further stated that Diego Simeone is ready to add the experienced midfielder who made only one appearance for the LaLiga champions during the post-lockdown for just £13.5m.
But Atletico President Enrique Cerezo admitted he was currently not sure if Rodriguez would sign.
"We have an excellent and young squad,' Cerezo told Radio Marca.
"However, if the coach considers it necessary, we will do everything in our reach to bring a player in. I have no idea whether he will end up coming."
Top Premier League sides including Manchester United, Everton, Arsenal and Wolves have been linked with the Colombian international.
Despite having a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich from 2017 to 2019 Rodriguez could not earn a permanent deal at the Allianz Arena.
The Colombian captained has also suffered a series of injury problems that has affected his performances for club and country.
His contract at the Bernabeu is due to expire in June 2021 and he is desperately set to leave after being unable to establish himself in Zidane's second spell in charge.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that James Rodriguez does not deserve the treatment he is getting from Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, Colombian legend Faustino Asprilla claims.
The 28-year-old had a loan spell at Bayern Munich and he has only managed to feature for Zidane's side 13 times this season.
The former Monaco midfielder was an unused substitute during Los Blancos win over Eibar and Valencia since action resumed from three months break.
