Edo 2020: Obaseki's family denies endorsing APC's Ize-Iyamu

The household of Governor Godwin Obaeseki of Edo state has openly denied endorsing Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, in the forthcoming election.

Addressing pressman on Wednesday, August 5, spokesperson of the Edo state governor's household Oyuki Gaius-Obaseki Jr said the family will not armfold itself while some dissents are attempting to bring crack into their midst.

Gaius-Obaseki further added that the family has agreed to sanction the marauders who made the false declaration, adding that those who endorsed their son's opponent are shameful.

"We condemn effort by anyone to create a division in our family for some cheap personal gain. And we have agreed on sanction for such persons," Obaseki Jr said.

"As a family, we have some children that have gone out of the way, we will not chase them away. We will not disown them.

"Those persons (who declared for Ize-Iyamu) do not have the authority of the Obaseki worldwide to endorse anyone on behalf of the family and represent us in any capacity whatsoever. They went on their own shamefully," Obaseki Jr further remarked.

Edo governorship election has been scheduled for September 19 by the electoral umpire in the country, leaving the poll a two-horse race between the two heavyweight parties - APC and PDP.

Meanwhile, Governor Obaseki has threatened to unleash violence in full force should the APC take to the rampage path.

The governor made this vow while addressing pressmen as the gubernatorial election in the south-south state draws closer.

Edo election has been scheduled for September with both APC and PDP highlighting the guber race in a fierce feud that has put both parties at public loggerhead.

Speaking about possible machinations of violence, Governor Obaseki said he will not hesitate to deploy violence because "there is no monopoly of it."
