Premier League side Chelsea have been hit with a severe blow on the possibility of them signing Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Stegen who is now on the verge of signing new deal.

The 28-year-old German currently has two more years left on his contract at Barcelona and there have been speculation over his future at the Nou Camp.

But according to the report on UK Sun, Barcelona are not ready to lose their goalkeeper and they are ready to tie him down for a long term contract.

The report added that the Stamford Bridge chiefs have submitted an offer to Barcelona for them to sign Stegen this summer as replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Arrizabalaga has not been impressive since he joined Chelsea in which there have been calls for Frank Lampard to find another stopper.

Kepa was benched in many games last season by Frank Lampard who also decided to use Willy Caballero in the FA Cup final against Arsenal.

Stegen who has won four La Liga titles with Barcelona is also wanted by Bayern Munich, but the goalkeeper wants to remain at Barcelona.

Lionel Messi who is Barcelona captain is also said to be comfortable seeing Stegen in goal for Barcelona and wants the club to keep the German.

Ajax goalie Onana is another option Chelsea could be turning to if they should fail to land Stegen this summer.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are preparing for their next game against Napoli in the Champions League, while Chelsea will be facing Bayern Munich in their own encounter.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Kepa Arrizabalaga is willing to take a pay cut to end his traumatic stay at Premier League side Chelsea.

The 27-year-old has consistently been called out for his mistakes in between the stick for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Chelsea's 5-3 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield has put the keeper under more scrutiny leaving their Champions League hopes hanging in the balance.

According to reports, the Spain international who earns £150,00 per week with the Blues has now resigned to leave the club.

Kepa who joined the west London club in 2018 for a £71.6 million world-record fee for a goalkeeper has now been linked with a move to Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.
