The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state has lost its chairman, Ini Okopido, to the cold hands of death after some complications with some of his organs.

According to The Nation, a chieftain of the APC confirmed the tragic development which took place on Wednesday, August 5.

The top member of the party in the state revealed that the deceased chairman died at the Ibom Multispecialty Hospital (IBH), Uyo.

Reports have it that Okopido died of multiple organ failure at the renowned hospital.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the APC had been tragically plunged into mourning following a report of the death of its chairman in South Africa, Dr. Taiye Olusola Abe.

Legit.ng gathered that the chairman of the ruling party passed away at the age of 65.

President Muhammadu Buhari had however reacted to the death of the late APC chairman. The Nigerian leader while expressing sadness over the news sympathized with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.

The disclosure was made in a statement on Wednesday, June 17, by the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.

In his condolence message, the president urged Abe's family and friends to take heart and prayed that God will comfort them at this time of sorrow. While describing the deceased as a man with an unmistakable love for Nigeria, President Buhari said the late APC chairman had a deep commitment to the ideals of the party.

President Buhari went on to recall many meetings he had with Dr. Abe while on visits to South Africa.

“Dr Abe looked forward to a Nigeria that would take its rightful place among the comity of nations, and passionately believed in a resurgent country we could all be proud of. We will not relent in working towards that goal,” the statement said.
