Ahead of the governorship election in Edo state, Governor Godwin Obaseki has threatened to unleash violence in full force should the All Progressives Congress (APC) take to the rampage path.
The governor made this vow while addressing pressmen as the gubernatorial election in the south-south state draws closer.
Edo election has been scheduled for September with both APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) highlighting the guber race in a fierce feud that has put both parties at public loggerhead.
Speaking about possible machinations of violence, Governor Obaseki said he will not hesitate to deploy violence because "there is no monopoly of it."
"Nobody has a monopoly of violence, if they want violence we will show them violence. If I see anybody smashing any car because my stickers or poster is there, let me know.
"And we will show them that we are in government. And I am governor, Philip (Shaibu) is deputy We are the only two people who have immunity in this state today. And I am saying it in a very clear warning," Obaseki said.
Obaseki dumped his membership of the APC on Tuesday, June 16, after he was screened out of the ruling party's primary over an alleged defective certificate.
His resignation climaxed the feud between him and his former political godfather, Adams Oshiomhole.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers has come under attack after saying Governor Obaseki, the PDP candidate in the forthcoming guber election in Edo state, does not have a strong opponent.
The election in Edo is less than four months and politicians mainly from the two prominent political parties have resulted in desperate attacks on personality.
Governor Wike, who is the chairman of PDP national campaign council of Edo state, had on Wednesday, July 29, boasted that Obaseki would win the election because his opponents do not have the political acceptability to challenge the governor.
But in a swift response, APC said the duo of Wike and Obaseki is planning to rig the forthcoming election through violence.
