Judges in Rivers state have been asked to shun acts of corruption. This call was made by Governor Nyesom Wike at the presentation of cars to judges on Monday, August 3, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
Going further, the governor also accused some judges of insubordination and dereliction of duty.
“There should be no more excuses for corruption and indolence in job performance among our judges with the level of incentives and entitlements we are providing.
“The point cannot be over-emphasised that the most important consideration of their calling is to ensure that justice gets to everyone that comes before you within the rule of law,” he said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the All Progressives Congress, (APC) is plotting to assassinate its national chairman, Uche Secondus, Governor Wike and other leaders of the party.
Dan Orbih, the chairman of Obaseki/Shaibu campaign council, made the allegation when reacting to a reported attack on a PDP convoy during a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin’s palace.
He told journalists in Benin City, the Edo state capital, that the reported attack on the PDP convoy could lead to a serious conflict involving states which had their governors in attendance.
Orbih who called on security agencies to ensure those found culpable are made to face the law, pointed out that the APC had no official engagements at the palace when his party members visited the monarch.
Legit.ng had also reported that the leadership of Wike was lauded by Omo N’Oba Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin in Edo state.
The prominent monarch commended Wike after the governor and some bigwigs of the PDP paid him a courtesy visit in his palace to seek blessing for the reelection of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Obaseki, who recently defected from APC after falling out with Adams Oshiomhole, former national chairman of the party, is seeking reelection on the platform of the opposition party.
In a statement by Paulinus Nsirim, Rivers commissioner for information and communication, Oba Ewuare said he has been following the leadership style of the Rivers governor.
Wike is the chairman of PDP national campaign council for the Edo state gubernatorial election scheduled to hold on Septemeber 19.
