In the spirit of reconciliation, the Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to Nigeria's former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to return to the ruling party.
In a report by The Guardian, APC also extended the olive branch to Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, former president of the Senate Bukola Saraki, as well as other former members who defected back in 2015 till date.
According to the ruling party, the return of Senator Barnabas Gemade and the former speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, is proof that the efforts of the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker committee to reconcile aggrieved members is yielding positive result.
The party’s deputy national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena, said APC urges all members who left to join efforts to reposition APC and achieve its pro-people plans.
Recall that the former speaker of the House of Representatives decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
This was revealed on Friday, July 24, by the acting chairman of the party, Mai Mala Buni. The news came after Dogara alongside Buni met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
Bashir Ahmad, the special assistant to the president on new media, tweeted the news on his verified Twitter handle.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Chief Barnabas Gemade, a former national chairman of the PDP, moved back to the APC.
Gemade dumped the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in a low key ceremony at the weekend at his Mbawar Council Ward, Konshisha local government area of Benue state.
He was followed by hundreds of his supporters to the APC. According to him, his decision to rejoin the APC followed due consideration of his political climate and Benue state. He noted that his return to the party was a home-coming.
The politician thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the APC, saying he is committed to joining hands in reshaping the party to become stronger.
Gemade was received by Benue APC chairman Comrade Abba Yaro who described the politician as a big fish, adding that it is a happy day for the party.
