The deputy governor of Edo, Philip Shaibu, has alleged that Adams Oshiomhole is trying to return to power for the third time in the state through the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s gubernatorial candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Shaibu went on to claim that Oshiomhole is using Ize-Iyamu as a stooge to impose himself on the people of the state who voluntarily voted for Governor Godwin Obaseki and have been beneficiaries of his leadership, The Nation reports.
According to a statement by Shaibu's media aide, Benjamin Atu, in Abuja on Sunday, August 2, the deputy governor said that the alleged plot by the suspended chairman of the APC is a contravention of Nigeria's constitution.
Part of the statement said: “The truth is that Ize-Iyamu is merely a stooge. The real man seeking the governorship position is Adams Oshiomhole, who has perfected a plan to betray democracy by seeking third term.
“Oshiomhole is displaying blind compassion, with a specific pledge to return to the state on the path of backwardness, with failed institutions, where individuals will be more powerful than government institutions, with an analogue system of operations."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Oshiomhole had said he was angry with Obaseki for failing to keep to his campaign promises.
Oshiomhole made the statement on Saturday, July 25, when speaking with traditional rulers of the Benin Kingdom at the Edo south senatorial district of the state.
The politician apologised to the kings for making Obaseki his successor in 2016. He said he was displeased with the incumbent governor for failing to continue all the ongoing projects in Edo state.
Oshiomhole accused Obaseki of spending the state’s resources by signing memorandums of understanding (MOUs).
The APC chieftain said he plans to correct his mistake by bringing Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who he said would bring the dividend of democracy to the people of Edo state.
