There was a tragedy on Saturday, August 1, as two planes conveying passengers collided in the United States leading to the death of all seven people on board, officials have said.

The disastrous mid-air collision occurred in Soldotna, Alaska and left no survivor as six people including Gary Knopp., former House of Representatives lawmaker, died on the spot while one died on the way to the hospital.

According to Times, one of the planes carried six passengers who all died while the second one had one passenger onboards.

The official later named the victim on the first plane as 67-year-old Alaska Rep. Gary Knopp. Those on the second plane include 57-year-old pilot Gregory Bell of Soldotna, 40-year-old travel guide David Rogers of Kansas.

The four other people were said to be visitors from South Carolina. They are 26-year-old Caleb Hulsey, 25-year-old Heather Hulsey, 24-year-old Mackay Hulsey and 23-year-old Kirstin Wright.

Meanwhile, Alaska governor, Mike Dunleavy, has ordered flags be flown at half-staff until sunset on Monday, August 3 to honour Knopp.

"The First Lady and I wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Representative Knopp’s family as they mourn his untimely passing," Governor Dunleavy.

Tributes have been since poured for the lawmakers who died in the tragic clash.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that seven armed robbers, who stormed First Bank in Okeho, Kajola local government area of Oyo state with the intention to cart away money, have met their Waterloo.

According to Imran Khalid, Legit.ng regional reporter who witnessed the scene, the armed robbers came in a blue Toyota Corolla with number plate LSR 257 FF.

They arrived at the bank around 4:30 pm on Wednesday, July 29, and gained entrance using dynamites and AK-47 riffles shots to blow the bank security door. They then killed a police officer manning the gate while eating.
