Dino Melaye has reacted to his defeat at the court of appeal with the former lawmaker submitting that "God always does right."
Legit.ng recalls that Melaye's last hope of reclaiming his mandate as Kogi West senator hit a fatal setback as court of appeal dismissed his appeal challenging Senator Smart Adeyemi’s victory in the Kogi bye-election.
The ruling, which was delivered by a three-man panel of the Abuja division of the court, affirmed the judgment of the Kogi state election petitions tribunal which previously upheld the election victory of Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congres (APC).
The court also unanimously resolved all the seven issues considered in the case against Melaye and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and further awarded the cost of N50,000 against Melaye and in favour of Adeyemi.
Melaye, who addressed pressmen after the ruling, said he has accepted the defeat as the will of God.
"I give God the praise especially for my life and I want to say there is a season for everything. This is how God wants it to go and I want to believe that there will be a new order. Gog will restore whatever we have lost," Melaye said.
"This judgement does not translate or cure the killing and rigging that took place during the election. We try again another day. No retreat no surrender."
The former senator in a tweet on Thursday, July 30, also wrote about hopes and disappointment, suggesting he may still be hurt by the outcome of the appeal.
"O' Lord!!! When l lose my hopes and plans, help me remember that your love is greater than my disappointments, and your plans for my life are better than my dreams. Lord do with me what you want to do with me. My God is never wrong and never late."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that as the Edo governorship election draws closer, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has shown readiness to reclaim the south-south state ahead of the 2023 general poll.
The opposition party on Saturday, July 25, flagged-off the campaign for the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy Phillips Shaibu.
Leading the official event is Dino Melaye, the former senator who represented Kogi West in the eighth National Assembly.
Melaye, who spoke in his usual clever yet hilarious way, maintained that every power joining hands to rig the guber election will be heavenly dealt with.
