- Jose Mourinho believes Man United benefitted from poor refereeing decisions
- The Portuguese claims Fernades scored six penalties from the 14 awarded to United last term
- The Red Devils will be back in action when United face LASK in the Europa League
Jose Mourinho has jokingly taken a swipe at his fellow countryman who plays for Man United that he had about 20 penalties to score.
The Reds Devils set a new Premier League for the record as the team with the most penalties after being awarded their 14th of the season against Leicester City.
And Fernades stepped up to convert his sixth of the season since his £50million January move from Sporting Lisbon.
Mourinho has suggested that his former employers had benefitted from a number of contentious refereeing decisions and VAR interventions.
In the 1-1 draw between Spurs and United, Mourinho claimed the penalty awarded to Paul Pogba from Eric Dier was a blunder from the referee.
The former Chelsea boss also criticised Fernandes for trying to win another spot-kick late in the game, which was ruled out after a second look from the VAR.
Fernandes scored the equaliser from 12 yards to cancel out Steven Bergwijn's goal and Mourinho made it clear post-match that he did not believe Dier's foul was a penalty.
Mourinho told Portuguese publication Record: “Bruno came in, was fit, played very well, improved the United team and also proved to be a great penalty taker, one of the best in the world, because he had about 20 to score."
Fernandes is expected to return to action when United continue their Europa League berth when in August.
United hold a 5-0 first advantage over LASK in the round of 16 clash back in March and would either face İstanbul Basaksehir or Copenhagen in the quarter finals.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported Manchester United have broken a long-standing Premier League record for most penalties awarded to a team in a single season.
United set the new record during their top four decider against Leicester on the final day of the season at the King Power Stadium.
The Red Devils won a penalty in the 72nd minute of the Sunday, July 26, cracker after Johnny Evans and Wes Morgan tripped Anthony Martial in the dangerous area.
