- Thomas Partey is a Ghanaian footballer who currently plays for Atletico Madrid
- Arsenal are interested in the signing of the 27-year-old defensive midfielder
- Atletico Madrid have rejected the Gunners' bid for Partey for the second time
Arsenal's hopes of signing Ghanaian defensive midfielder Thomas Partey has hit a rock as his club in the Spanish La Liga Atletico Madrid have reportedly rejected the deal.
This rejection will come as a big disappointment for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta who is looking forward to bolster his squad for next Premier League season.
At the just concluded 2019/20 Premier League season, Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League which they also failed to do last term.
However, the Gunners still have one more chance this term to make their fans happy, and that will be if they should beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final this coming Saturday.
According to the report on Daily Star, Arsenal have offered £22.5m plus Matteo Guendouzi for them to lure Thomas Partey to the Emirates stadium, but Atletico are not interested in the deal.
Atletico Madrid are reported to have reiterated to Arsenal that they want Partey’s €50m release clause to be paid out in full if the Gunners really want his signature.
But the report added that Arsenal chiefs will not be meeting Atletico Madrid's asking price for Thomas which means they will have to look elsewhere for another defensive midfielder.
Thomas Partey has two more years on his deal with Atletico Madrid and the club have offered him a new deal for them to have him for a long term.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Turkish giants Fenerbahce have reportedly indicated their interest to sign Arsenal star Mesut Ozil on loan this summer, but they will have problems with paying his huge weekly wages.
The former Real Madrid star is currently on £350,00-a-week at the Emirates stadium, but Fenerbahce would only be able to pay the German £52,000-a-week.
Such offer will come as an insult to Ozil and the German football star will prefer staying at Arsenal till the end of his contract.
But Ozil has fallen out of favor this term at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta and has not played any games for the Gunners since football resumed in Europe last month.
