- APC has reacted as PDP kickstarted campaign for Godwin Obaseki's reelection on Saturday, July 25
- The ruling party alleged that there were violence and threats to lives of voters during the official event
- APC said the "do or die" ploy of PDP and Governor Nyesom Wike will be vehemently rejected in September
The All Progressives Congress has scolded the Peoples Democratic Party over its official flag-off of the campaign for Governor Godwin Obaseki in Edo state.
It would be recalled that on Saturday, July 25, the opposition party kickstarted the campaign for the reelection bid of Governor Obaseki and his deputy Phillips Shaibu.
APC, in a reaction, attacked PDP and alleged that there were destructions of "property and violence meted on hapless victims" during the official event.
In a statement released by the party on Monday, July 27, on its Twitter handle, the ruling party described the alleged violence during the PDP campaign as disturbing.
It also posited that the manner in which the event was administered is a glimpse into the "do or die plot" the opposition party plans to unleash in the forthcoming governorship election.
"To imagine that the PDP chose to desecrate the Palace of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II is despicable, unheard of and a new low even by PDP's ignoble standards," part of the statement read.
The APC added that the PDP in Edo state is not campaigning for votes but relying on brute force, violence and intimidation ahead of the governorship election.
The party also attacked Governor Nyesom Wike of River state, saying his attempt to win Edo state will not succeed.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that as the Edo governorship election draws closer, PDP has shown readiness to reclaim the south-south state ahead of the 2023 general poll.
Leading the official event is Dino Melaye, the former senator representing Kogi West, in the eighth National Assembly.
In a video from the campaign held in Benin shared by the PDP on its official Twitter handle on Monday, July 27, the former Kogi lawmaker emphasised that the APC will lose in the election.
