The All Progressives Congress (APC) female governorship aspirant in the Ondo governorship election Jumoke Ajasin-Afowonishe, has rejected the party's gubernatorial primary results.
According to The Nation, Anifowoshe said the process leading to the emergence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as the party’s candidate was flawed.
The only female governorship aspirant scored only two votes while Akeredolu secured the party's ticket with a wide margin of 2,458 votes.
Anifowoshe in a statement by director-general of her campaign organisation, Hon. Kayode Arigbede, issued on Saturday, July 25, in Akure, said the whole primary was manipulated from the beginning to the end.
She went on to note this would affect the legitimacy and credibility of the APC government in the state.
The former attorney-general also added that the exercise did not aspirants a level playing field.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a governorship aspirant in the just concluded primary election of the APC in Ondo state, Nathaniel Adojutelegan, has filed a petition against the victory of Governor Akeredolu.
The petitioner appeared before the nine-man appeal committee led by Emperor Chris Baywood Ibe at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja.
Adojutelegan alleged the primary fell short of the party’s constitution, guidelines, rules and regulations of the APC and electoral laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In a related development, Olusola Oke, another governorship aspirant of the APC in Ondo has alleged that the APC primary in Ondo state was slanted to favour Governor Akeredolu. He made the allegation after a meeting with members of his campaign organization.
Oke urged the Ondo state governor to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party. He said he and his supporters are ready to participate in any reconciliation efforts genuinely undertaken by the leadership of the party.
The aspirant also noted that the APC needs to be united to record a landslide victory against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ondo governorship election.
