Tolulope Arotile: NAF hands over suspects to police

Following the funeral of Nigeria's first female combat helicopter pilot, Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has handed over three suspects involved in the accident that led to her death to the Nigeria Police.

Air Commodore, Ibikunle Daramola, the director of public relations and information in a statement revealed the names of the suspects as Nehemiah Adejoh, Igbekele Folorunsho and Festus Gbayegun.

According to Channels TV, Daramola said the suspects who were former schoolmates of late Arotile were handed to the police on Friday, July 24, at the NAF Base Kaduna.

The Commander 453 Base Services Group (453 BSG), Group Captain Hadi Ahmed, speaking abou the accident recalled that the car driven by Adejoh, with the other two suspects knocked down Arotile while she was walking.

Group Captain Ahmed went on to that the three men who attended Air Force Secondary School Kaduna with the deceased were going to visit the spouse of an officer on the Base before the tragic accident occurred.

The Nigerian Air Force had earlier released a report on the preliminary investigation on the death of Arotile.

Addressing journalists on Sunday, July 19, at the NAF headquarters in Abuja, the spokesman of the service, gave a detailed explanation of what transpired.

He said Arotile was returning from the Mammy Market (a name residents in military bases across Nigeria commonly call their marketplace) at about 4.30 pm when the incident occurred.

He said the men in the vehicle were immediately detained at the Air Provost Wing, 453 Base Services Group Kaduna as investigations began.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the remains of the deceased first female combat helicopter pilot, was laid to rest at the military cemetery, Abuja for interment.

Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, was one of the dignitaries at the event. Arotile is from Ijimu local government area of Kogi state.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin and women affairs minister, Pauline Tallen, were also present at the funeral.
