Buhari won’t resign - APC tells PDP, reacts to Dogara's defection

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the eventual return of the former speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, to its fold.

The ruling party's national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena, said that Dogara's defection is a source of joy to the APC, Daily Trust reports.

In a statement signed by Nabena, the APC categorically said: “We are particularly gladdened by the return of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara to the APC."

The party, however, noted that it is not oblivious of the fact that it will meet obstacles in its bid to achieve for fellow citizens the Nigeria of their dreams under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The APC added: "...we are already delivering on key electoral promises of securing the nation, fighting corruption and improving the economy and livelihoods.”

In response to the call by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Buhari's resignation, the party said that the nation deserves a better opposition than what it actually has at the moment.

The APC in its statement said: “It is well within the rights of PDP members to abandon a rudderless and sinking ship for the progressive fold. Going by the popular axiom: Why fly like a hen when you can soar like an Eagle?"

The party called on the PDP to watch and see how the president will clean up the mess they caused in the country.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Dogara had decamped to the APC. This was revealed on Friday, July 24, by the acting chairman of the party, Mai Mala Buni.

The news came after Dogara alongside Buni met with Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Bashir Ahmad, the special assistant to the president on new media, tweeted the news on his verified Twitter handle.

This shocking development has been confirmed by the APC Nigeria Support, a group under the ruling party on its official Twitter page on Friday.
