- Leon Balogun has announced his exit from English club Wigan
- The Super Eagles defender made it clear that he won't be playing in the third tier
- Balogun will now be looking for another club before the start of 2020/21 season
Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun has taken to his official twitter account to announce his departure from English club Wigan Athletic after they relegated to the third division.
Wigan suffered the consequences of going into administration as the League chiefs deducted 12 points from them last season in the championship.
The club however found themselves at the bottom of the second division and they were unable to escape relegation at the end of the season.
Years back, Portsmouth were also punished for a similar thing and they have been struggling ever since then to come to the topflight.
Leon Balogun joined Wigan on a permanent deal from Brighton where he failed to get regular playing time with the hope of reviving his career at the JJB stadium.
But things did not work the way he wanted and has made it clear that he won't be playing with Wigan in the third division.
“I also want to say thank you and goodbye to Paul Cook and his staff, the team and the whole Tics Family @LaticsOfficial. It’s been a very short and super intense time and I’m happy to have played my part in it.
“The togetherness, the honesty and warmth of the people in and around the club is simply amazing. I would have wished to end my spell with a different outcome, but unfortunately that’s beyond our control now.
“Regardless I will always remember this as a very special time in my career, in a very special place with a very special club full of very special people,'' Balogun explained.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Nigerian football legend John Obi Mikel explained that he tried his best to make sure that Trabzonspor win the 2019/20 League title in Turkey.
Mikel and the club's chiefs had issues back in March as a result of the coronavirus in which the Nigerian wanted the side to stop playing games.
But the club wanted the AFCON winner to continue playing for them which he refused and they were forced to terminate his contract.
Trabzonspor were topping the League table in Turkey before Mikel Obi left and the club's fans were hoping that they would win the title at the end of the season.
