Nigerian football legend John Obi Mikel has explained that he tried his best to make sure that Trabzonspor win the 2019/20 League title in Turkey.

Mikel and the club's chiefs had issues back in March as a result of Coronavirus in which the Nigerian wanted the side to stop playing games.

But the club wanted the AFCON winner to continue playing for them which he refused and they were forced to terminate his contract.

Trabzonspor were topping the League table in Turkey before Mikel Obi left and the club's fans were hoping that they would win the title at the end of the season.

This is a great career achievement for the 23-year-old former Bayelsa United captain who only joined the Turkish side in January this year on loan.

With only one game remaining to end the season in Turkey, Istanbul Baseksehir have been named new champions thanks to their 1-0 win on Sunday, July 19, over Kayserispor.
