Luka Modric has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo's departure would not hinder their trophy drought for long.

Real Madrid won their 34th La Liga title in style following their 11th straight league win over Villarreal at the Alfred Di Stefano Stadium.

Zinedine Zidane was the last manager that clinched the title for Los Blancos in the 2016-17 season and finished five points clear of rivals Barcelona in the current campaign.

But Modric has insisted he never doubted that the glory days would return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Croatian midfielder was asked whether Ronaldo's exit affected the winning mentality within the squad, he told Sportske Novosti: "It is not necessary to discuss how important Cristiano was for Real Madrid.

"But I must say that we were not overwhelmed by the fact that he was not there in the sense that we could not have the same ambitions.

"We were convinced that we would continue to win without him."

The former Tottenham man added on Zidane's expert man-management skills: "Zidane once again proved to be a great person. He is reassuring and he is very correct in his approach to the player.

"There are always those who do not play as much as they would like, they are not happy and that makes sense.

"But the coach's approach has helped everyone feel part of the team and accept their situation.

"In this dressing room, everyone is a good guy, there is no one who creates problems for their own reasons, there are no bad apples."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Ballon d'Or will not be contested by any player in 2020 due to the impact of the coronavirus in most parts of the year.

France Football who regularly hold the ceremony claim that there are lack of sufficient fair conditions to give the award to any player in all categories.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated the awards for over a decade and the Barcelona star who currently holds the 2019 edition, will remain unchallenged until 2021.
