- The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has called out a DSS official for allegedly slapping an airport worker
- The DSS official is attached to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and his name is Safiyanu Abba
- FAAN accused the DSS official of breaching security procedures in the airport
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has continued its new policy of naming and shaming prominent Nigerians who flout the new procedures in Nigerian airports.
This time the FAAN management has called out a Department of State Services (DSS) official for allegedly flouting security procedure at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja (NAIA).
DSS officials, like most Nigerian security personnel in various other agencies, are generally known to be lawless in Nigeria.
In a statement widely published on its social media pages, FAAN called out the DSS officer while recalling how the incident happened.
Part of the statement read: “We note with dismay that Mr Safiyanu Abba, the head of DSS at NAIA deliberately obstructed airport security process, and slapped an aviation security officer who was performing his duty.
“ He breached security procedure by obstructing further searching of a visitor who had just walked through the metal detector and activated the alarm.”
According to FAAN, the incident happened on Friday, July 17, around 5pm.
FAAN reiterated that it is committed to its core values of safety, security and comfort for all passengers using Nigerian airports.
FAAN recently berated the immediate past governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari, over his alleged violation of the public health procedures of COVID-19 during travels.
The agency in a thread of tweets on Wednesday, July 15, said the former governor refused to adhere to the protocols and procedures put in place by the federal government through the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.
Yari was said to have forcefully pushed away an officer of the environment department when he insisted that his luggage must be disinfected at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Saturday, July 11.
Similarly, FAAN recently berated the governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for refusing to observe the safety protocols and procedures put in place by the federal government at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
According to the agency, Fintiri alongside his entourage numbering about eight were reported to have refused to have their temperature checked, or be sanitized by the health officials.
