Troops of Operation Sahel Sanity of the Nigerian Army deployed in various parts of the north have arrested eight notorious bandits in Sokoto and Katsina states.

A statement by Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko, the acting director of Defence Media Operations (DMO) on Thursday, July 23, disclosed that the suspects are undergoing investigation.

According to the DMO acting director, the clearance operation, which was aimed at riding the northwest of banditry, and other criminalities yielded tremendous results.

He said that the troops deployed at Gundumi in Isah local government area of Sokoto state on Saturday, July 18, arrested 2 suspected bandits while acting on credible intelligence reports.

While on clearance patrol at Teke Mai Filoti village in Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto, the gallant soldiers arrested 2 notorious bandits known for involvement in kidnapping and robbery activities.

Similarly, troops deployed at Nahuta village in Katsina unweaving in their duties arrested 2 bandits namely Mohammed Lawal and Useni Abubakar who were identified by the villagers to have carried out several attacks at various times.

Meanwhile, the gallant troops of Operation Sahel Sanity also arrested 2 suspected bandits at Yar Tasha village.

The soldiers while on a clearance patrol at Mara Runka on Wednesday, July 22, came in contact with bandits who opened fire on them, fortunately, no life was lost as the troops were able to arrest 2 that tried to flee.

Onyeuko said the bandits abandoned their motorcycles and items which included one black bag containing charms and the sum of one thousand six hundred and fifty Naira (N1,650.00) only were recovered from them.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Kogi state neighbourhood watch which comprises of the vigilantes and hunters arrested some notorious bandits and recovered arms and ammunition in one of its routine raids to rid the state of criminal elements.

The operation followed the state government's renewed efforts in strengthening its neighbourhood watch which has so far complemented the efforts of security agencies in the state.

It was carried out across four local government areas of the state, namely, Kabba Bunu, Adavi, Okehi and Ofu.
