Coronavirus is not a death sentence - Governor Ikpeazu shares COVID-19 experience

Abia state governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has opened up on his experience after surviving the deadly novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19.

The governor narrated his experience in a video shared from the official twitter account of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture on Wednesday, July 22.

Ikpeazu speaking in the video said he is happy to be a survivor of COVID-19. According to him, he knew from the onset that COVID-19 was very serious, but it wasn't a death sentence.

He went on to note that the critical thing is early diagnosis and to get medical attention as quickly as possible.

It would be recalled that the Abia state governor recovered from COVID-19, weeks after testing positive. Ikpeazu is set to resume work on Wednesday, July 22, after his recovery.

According to John Okiyi Kalu, the state's commissioner for information on Saturday, July 4, some NCDC officials stated that the governor has fully recovered from the virus.

The state commissioner of information had announced in a statement on Monday, June 8, that Ikpeazu tested positive for the COVID-19 infection.

Kalu said the governor had gone into isolation and directed his deputy governor to act on his behalf pending the time he resumes duty.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Governor Ikpeazu allayed apprehension generated by his health state after testing positive to the coronavirus.

The governor who spoke from isolation through his spokesman Enyinnaya Apollo, called for calm and promised to return back to duty in due course.

Apollo, who said he and the governor had a chat on Wednesday, June 10, noted that his principal is hale and healthy as health operatives in the state are managing his Covid-19 infection very well.

In other news, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi on Saturday, July 4, confirmed that he has contracted the deadly coronavirus pandemic which has also encroached into the state.

Umahi announced his coronavirus status in a statement on Saturday, adding that some of his aides have also tested positive for the deadly pandemic.

Although the governor revealed that he is asymptomatic at the moment, Umahi stated that he has gone into self-isolation in line with protocols given by the NCDC.
