Nigeria Professional Football League side Rangers International FC have made a formal presentation of the N20million insurance benefit fund to the family of late Ifeanyi George.
FajSport are reporting that the cheque was delivered on Tuesday, July 21 and received by the late player’s brother, Sonny Onwubiko on behalf of the family.
George died in March after an auto crash accident and Rangers are understood to have acquired a "group/personal accident insurance policy" for their players, staff and officials in the event of an unforeseen occurrence on and off the field such as; injury, permanent disability, total disability and death.
It was gathered that the insurance policy have yielded a death compensation and benefit of N20million for the player which was recently handed to Rangers Management Corporation by Premier Brokers Limited and now to the family.
In addition to the remittance, the fund was also outlined in parts to all associated persons for different purposes.
Half of the total sum (N10 million) was allocated to his family, N8 million was channeled as trust fund for his daughter's education, and N2million to the woman who bore his daughter.
The remains of late Enugu Rangers striker was laid to rest at Atan cemetery Yaba, Lagos State on Saturday, March 28.
The assistant captain died in a ghastly motor accident while returning to his base on Sunday, March 22, 2020.
The ex-Enyimba of Aba striker was in the car with two others who were also killed in the incident. They were said to be returning home when the tragic incident occurred.
Ifeanyi George made his international debut for Nigeria in 2017 against Benin and made two international caps. He was aged 26.
Legit.ng earlier reported that tragedy struck in Warri, Delta state on Monday, June 15, as Nigerian football star Erhire Akpoyovwire Felix died after he reportedly battled an unknown illness for some time.
It was gathered that the former Warri Wolves striker who was a cult hero for Nigerian National League side J.Atete had been down with illness.
Manager of Heartland football club Fidelis Ilechukwu described Erhire’s death as unfortunate, adding that he spoke with the player about twenty-four hours before he heard the sad news of his death.
