- Mason Greenwood joined Manchester United for a record fee of £600
- The teenage sensation took everyone by surprise having scored 17 goals so far this season
- Greenwood could be a part of Solskjaer's main team next campaign
Mason Greenwood is one of Manchester United's discoveries this campaign having scored 17 goals and five assists across competitions.
The 18-year-old forward has a deal with the Red Devils until 2023 after being promoted to the senior team in 2018.
However, it is surprising that United paid just £600 for the teenage sensation when they signed him from a Bradford base club Idle FC years back.
SunSport revealed that the amateur club used the fund to buy new kits and equipment.
The publication further added that one of the Red Devils scouts approached the owner of the non-league club Marcus Strudwick, asking if Greenwood would be allowed to train at the club's development centre in Halifax.
While reminiscing on the deal, Strudwick told The Times: “With hindsight, I should have taken a picture of the cheque. The money went towards buying new kit, equipment and setting up a new team.”
Greenwood's value according to Transfermarkt stands at a whopping £26 million but that depends if the Premier League outfit would want to give him away for that price.
The teenage sensation's former coach at Idle FC revealed that he would be contacted by scouts from the likes of Manchester United and Leeds to see if the young striker was playing.
He handed the youngster his debut at the age of six - playing along with boys older than him.
Newsham told The Times: “Loads of scouts would ring me up about him every Saturday. "I used to get phone calls from Huddersfield, Blackburn, Leeds, Man United . . . all of them.”
Greenwood was super impressive in his debut scoring all 10 goals in their 10-1 victory over their opponent. Newsham said: “We won 10-1 and Mason got all ten goals.
“Once your team got to ten back in those days you had to stop the game because it wasn’t nice for the opposition, so I kept having to take him off.
“Every time he came off he stood at the side of me, looked up and said, ‘Paul, can I go back on the pitch?’
"So I would send him back on and he would score again. He was tiny, but no one could lay a glove on him. That’s what made him so special.”
It was since then that many knew that Greenwood would turn out to be a superb footballer in the Premier League.
He has scored 17 goals this term, including four in his last six games. He struck twice in the 5-2 win over Bournemouth.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Mason Greenwood increased his Premier League goal tally to eight after netting twice against Bournemouth in last weekend's clash at Old Trafford.
The 18-year-old has been one of the revelations of the season for the Red Devils after breaking into the senior team during their pre-season tour.
He scored one of his side's goals against Leeds United in their 4-0 win over the Championship outfit. The youngster scored yet another against Serie A giants Inter Milan in their next game.
