Magu probe: EFCC officials beg Buhari to reverse suspension

Not less than 12 officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have begged President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse their suspension amid the probe of the former acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu.

One of the senior officials confirmed that they all received their suspension letters on Monday, July 20, less than a week after the Nigerian leader issued the directive.

The Nation noted that the official spoke to the news publication, however, Legit.ng could not independently verify the claim.

Recall that some officials of the anti-graft agency were quizzed by the presidential investigation panel, headed by Justice Isa Ayo Salami (red) as they were regarded as persons of interest.

In light of this, the federal government ordered the deployment of security and intelligence agencies at the headquarters of the EFCC and its offices across Nigeria.

It was also reported that the movement and telephone conversations of some persons regarded as “Magu Boys” were being monitored and restricted.

According to the publication's source, the EFCC officials were informed that their suspension is indefinite, adding that they have accepted it in good faith.

Speaking further, the operative noted that though they have not appeared before the committee, they called on the president to intervene in the matter and reverse the suspension.

The source said: “After being in limbo for one week, we got our suspension letters on Monday. We were informed that the suspension is indefinite. We have taken it in good faith. But most of us have not received queries in our career.

“We have not even appeared before any disciplinary committee. We appeal to President Mummadu Buhari to intervene by reversing the suspension.”

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that there was a massive sweep of senior officials of the EFCC by the presidency following the suspension of its former chairman.

According to presidential sources, the executive secretary of the commission, Olanipekun Olukoyede has been suspended by President Buhari.

Apart from Olukoyede, not less than 11 other top operatives in the agency were also suspended by the president.

The source told journalists that the personnel were suspended "for various alleged criminal and corrupt infractions.”
