Gov Akeredolu emerges APC Ondo governorship candidate

- Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu has emerged as the APC governorship candidate for the Ondo governorship poll

- The governor defeated his closest rival in the exercise, Chief Olusola Oke with over 50 per cent votes

- Governor Akeredolu also polled the highest number of votes in all the 18 local government areas of the state

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in forthcoming Ondo state gubernatorial election.

Akeredolu was declared the party’s flag bearer, having won the highest number of lawful votes at the party’s primary election held at Akure on Monday, July 20.

Kogi state governor and chairman of the Ondo APC primary election committee, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, announced the results at the end of the exercise which lasted for several hours.

Aspirants who participated in the primary election were Isaacs Kekemeke, Bukola Adetula, Chief Olusola Oke, Sola Iji, Olaide Adelami, and Jumoke Anifowose.

The governor defeated his closest rival in the exercise, Chief Oke with over 50 per cent votes.

Akeredolu also polled the highest number of votes in all the 18 local government areas of the state.

After announcing the results, Governor Bello said members of the committee were fair to all the aspirants that participated in the election.

He urged all the aspirants to support Akeredolu in the main election to ensure the APC retains Ondo state in the October 10 election.

Governor Bello had earlier assured all the delegates that the exercise will be free and fair.

The Kogi governor gave the assurance while addressing the delegates before the commencement of the exercise.

He also ruled out the possibility of bias and favouritism in the conduct of the primary, stressing that his committee has no interest in any of the 12 aspirants.

Earlier, four of the aspirants vying for the APC ticket stepped down for Governor Akeredolu before the commencement of the exercise.

The aspirants are Ife Oyedele, Olusegun Abraham, Jimi Odimayo and Dr Nathaniel Adojutelegan.

Oyedele who is the executive director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria said he is now pitching his tent with the governor.
