David De Gea's errors have been the talking point in Man United's FA Cup loss to Chelsea but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed the Spaniard to bounce back.
The Norwegian boss admitted that the Red Devils' number one should have done better in the match that cost United a place in the FA Cup final.
Mason Mount's 25-yard effort beat De Gea to double Chelsea's lead and Olivier Giroud's earlier strike also had the Spanish shot-stopper questioned.
“Obviously everyone has to perform and everyone has a chance every game to stake a place in the team. David knows he should have saved the second goal but that’s done now, we have to move on and look forward to Wednesday,” Goal quoting Solskjaer.
“It’s hard for a keeper to make amends. So much easier for outfield players. David showed in the rest of the game, he made a few good saves, but he knows he could have saved that one.”
Solskjaer was also criticized after making five changes to his starting XI that beat Crystal Palace in mid-week, giving opportunities to Daniel James, Eric Bailly, Brandon Williams, Fred and Nemanja Matic.
United were second best in all departments of the match as the team could not find their rhythm but Solskjaer has insisted that he made the right choice.
“We picked the team today to give us the best opportunity to go through in the cup and be ready for Wednesday and it didn’t work today,” he explained.
The match ended 3-1 in favor of the London club as they will now face Arsenal on August 1, but Solskjaer claims they have moved on from the loss and are now looking ahead.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Chelsea will battle London rivals Arsenal in the final of this year's FA Cup championship following their 3-1 victory over Manchester United.
Olivier Giroud put the Blues ahead in the added time of the opening half with a close tap-in from Cesar Azpilicueta's superb cross.
The Frenchman watched the move from the defender and quickly made a run into United's danger zone before connecting with the ball that handed his side the lead.
