Three aspirants absent at Ondo APC peace meeting

- Three APC governorship aspirants in Ondo state are absent at a peace meeting convened by the party ahead of the primary

- The absentees are Olusola Oke, Jimi Odimayo and Olayide Adelami

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for the Ondo state governorship election, the party appears to be having internal fractures to deal with.

At the meeting convened by the party to ensure there is unity among members ahead of the forthcoming primary, some aspirants were absent, according to The Nation.

The absentee aspirants are Olusola Oke, Jimi Odimayo and Olayide Adelami. gathers that the meeting is being held at the Heritage Hotel in Akure and presided over by the governor of Niger state, Abubakar Sani Bello.

Explaining why Oke is absent, his spokesman, Rotimi Ogunleye, said his boss was on a campaign tour of local government areas.

A total of 12 aspirants were cleared to contest at the APC primary.

Aspirants present at the ongoing meeting were Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Mrs Jumoke Anifowoshe, Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele, Ambassador Olusola Iji, Bukola Adetula amongst others.

Party sources said some aspirants have commenced moves to be picked as running mate to Governor Akeredolu after the party primary.

Earlier, reported that Odimayo, one of the governorship aspirants, slammed the chairman of the primary election committee, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state.

Odimayo spoke on Thursday, July 16, through his campaign organisation. Also, another aspirant who asked not to be named, reportedly said that many of them (the aspirants) were not happy with the choice of Governor Bello as the chairman of the committee.

He said the leadership of the Unity Forum, a group in the party, would meet before Sunday, July 19, to harmonise their interests.

Though 12 aspirants have been cleared to participate in the poll, the aspirant hinted that they may cut down the number so as to put up a strong front.

Meanwhile, a report by Daily Trust indicates that Governor Akeredolu seems to be the favoured candidate of the presidency ahead of the APC governorship primary election in Ondo state.

Aside from the presidency’s support, Akeredolu is said to enjoy the support of his colleagues, in the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), chaired by the Kebbi state governor, Atiku Bagudu.
