The federal government has warned that very important personalities might face jail terms if found guilty of flouting of COVID-19 protocol put in place at domestic airports.
The minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika, gave the warning on Thursday in Abuja at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Daily Trust reports.
He said there were ongoing investigations to ascertain if a former governor, Abdulaziz Yari, and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state, flouted COVID-19 protocol as reported recently.
The minister said if the investigation absolves them of any fault, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) would publicly clear them of such allegations.
He however stated that if they are found culpable, they may be penalised for flouting of the COVID-19 protocols.
The minister pointed out that it is an offence for passengers to become unruly at the airport terminal building or on-board a particular aircraft commits an offence.
He said unruly passengers are liable to face imprisonment ranging from two months to ten years.
Meanwhile, Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara state, has reacted to claims that he personally assaulted an official of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano.
Speaking through his media aide, Mayowa Oluwabiyi, on Thursday, July 16, Yari said that the said incident which has already gone viral never happened, The Sun reports.
The former governor said that the allegation is distasteful and untrue of his person and therefore called on the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to delete the reports contained in one of its tweets.
In another report, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has been praised for observing all safety protocols at the arrival hall of Port Harcourt International Airport.
The governor was praised by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on Wednesday, July 15, in a tweet sighted by Legit.ng.
