Edo election: APC governors hold crucial meeting, map out strategy to oust Obaseki

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign monitoring sub-committee of the national campaign council for Edo state governorship election on Thursday, July 16, met to strategise over the September 19 governorship election in the state.

The Nation reports that the meeting, which took place behind closed-doors at the national secretariat of the party, lasted for about 45 minutes before it was moved to an undisclosed venue in the capital city.

Legit.ng gathered that in attendance were the chairman of the sub-committee and Imo governor, Hope Uzodinma, who is also the deputy chairman of the national campaign council; the deputy Senate president, Ovie Omo-Agege and Professor Julius Ihonvibere among others.

The party's flagbearer, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and his running mate, Gani Audu, were also in attendance. The committee members and Ize-Iyamu failed to speak to newsmen.

But it was, however, gathered that the meeting, which essentially was to discuss among other things, the campaign budget, had to relocate to enable it to meet with some critical stakeholders for further strategies on how to reclaim the state from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Our meeting at the national secretariat was briefed because we needed to contact some critical stakeholders in the Edo state governorship election project for their inputs, which we intend to factor into our final report that would be submitted to the national campaign council,” the source was quoted.

The newspaper also noted that the source in the PGF secretariat confirmed a crucial meeting of APC governors on Thursday, July 16, at an undisclosed venue to discuss the elections in Edo and Ondo states.

“Edo election is crucial to the party, that is why all APC governors are meeting tonight (Thursday) to strategise on how to record victory in the forthcoming elections in Edo and Ondo state,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that ahead of the incoming governorship election in Edo state, Governor Godwin Obaseki, revealed the relationship between him and President Muhammadu Buhari.

It was reported that his relationship with President Buhari is that of a father and son.

He said that he was on a zoom meeting with the president, during which they engaged on development issues affecting Edo people and Nigerians.

In another report, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) claimed that some APC leaders who were recently sacked were taking their grievances too far.

The council claimed that the ruling party's former pillars are employing media attacks against the administration of President Buhari.

The NYCN added that this band of APC members is also against the attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami.
