Meanwhile, the PDP has expressed excitement following the mass defection from the APC to its fold in Edo state.

Kola Ologbondiyan, the national publicity secretary of the PDP, in a statement on Monday, July 13, said the mass defection marked the end-of-the-road for both the ruling APC and its candidate, Ize-Iyamu.

Ologbondiyan went on to note that following the increasing popularity of Governor Godwin Obaseki and the PDP across the state, they have been receiving reports of a massive surge for PDP membership cards daily.

A man on Twitter corroborated Ologbodiyan's claim. He noted: "I am from Edo state. The total number of APC in Edo is less than 2000. It will interest you to know that the PDP no longer have membership cards to give to members who are trooping out of APC in Edo. Better days ahead as many will leave before 19th September."
