The National Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Edo gubernatorial election has resolved to work towards Governor Godwin Obaseki's victory.
Members of the council, during their closed-door meeting in Rivers state on Wednesday, July 15, concluded that Obaseki has a lot of edges over other candidates eyeing the governorship seat.
The high-profile meeting was presided over by the chairman of the campaign council for the Edo election, Governor Nyesom Wike, The Nation reports.
Other PDP governors and bigwigs who were present at the meeting were Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo).
In his submission, Governor Fintiri said: “The election is already on the table for PDP. We have a sellable candidate, who is Governor Godwin Obaseki. Nigerians are moving forward with democracy and we have to deepen it together.
“Technically, Edo is a PDP state because, in the last election of 2019, we actually won all the elections. So, it is not coming as a surprise that Governor Obaseki has to shift his ground from APC to join us."
The governor added that the council is putting all the forces with nothing left behind to make so that Edo is entirely claimed by the PDP.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Obaseki of Edo had gotten powerful backbones to oversee his campaign ahead of the gubernatorial election in the state on the platform of the PDP.
This was as the PDP had appointed Governor Wike of Rivers to head the Edo state governorship election national council. The party also appointed Governor Fintiri as the deputy chairman of the council.
Also, Wike had finally lifted the lids on why he decided to march out of the Edo PDP governorship reconciliatory committee amid differences preluding the state primary.
The Rivers governor announced that he had disengaged himself from a peace panel organised by Edo PDP chapter ahead of the gubernatorial election.
The aggrieved governor on Tuesday, June 23, alleged that there are some persons in the PDP's National Working Committee (NWC) who were bent on bringing his name into the mud.
