However, some policemen attached to the counter-terrorism unit of the Nigeria Police in the area chased after the terrorists.

After a gun battle, the police team recovered one gun-truck, rifles, and rescued two soldiers who were alive.

In another report, the Citizens Against Fake Activists (CAFA) has called on lawmakers of the ninth National Assembly to amend the nation's anti-terror legislation to dish out stiffer penalties, on fake activists and others who aid and abet terrorism in Nigeria.

CAFA said this conclusion was reached after a thorough evaluation of the ongoing war against terrorism in the northeast region of Nigeria and other security breaches across the country.

The spokesperson for CAFA, Joseph Audu, in a statement on Thursday, July 9, said some individuals and groups are currently sabotaging the efforts of the troops.

Audu alleged that some of these individuals are providing intelligence information, logistic and strategic support gathered from security agencies and residents to terrorists who are fleeing the ongoing military onslaught.

He said with stiffer sanctions against these individuals, the Nigerian army can now proceed to wipe out the remnants of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

Audu said the CAFA has resolved to expose these activists working for the interest of foreign governments while also championing the sponsorship of a bill to amend the terrorism act.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, on Thursday, June 11, said Boko Haram now operates in the country just like an industry.

Lawan revealed that the terrorist group now has its members from several religions and nations, AIT News reports.

The Senate boss lamented that despite countless resolutions and efforts made by the red chamber, the insurgents are still thriving in their business of inflicting pain and striking terror in the minds of Nigerians.
