Lautaro Martinez is on the verge of joining Spanish giants Barcelona as reports have it that the La Liga outfit have finally sealed an agreement with Inter Milan for the Argentine striker worth €70million.
Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that the deal will also see Junior Firpo leave the Catalan club and pitch tents with the Serie A side.
Barça are currently locked in a battle for the La Liga title and do not wish to take on additional distractions.
Both clubs are still featuring in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League respectively, but the teams are expected to finalize the deals by August.
Inter earlier claimed that Martinez’s deal expired on July 7, but in any event, this development is guaranteed to see the Argentine’s $125mn release clause become a non-issue.
Forced into being more reasonable with their demands, however, the popular consensus is that Martinez can be acquired for around $101m.
Recall that with rising tensions within at Camp Nou, Barcelona were prepared to offer out-of-favour forward Antoine Griezmann to three different clubs as part swap deals.
The Catalan giants are interested in having Neymar return to the club from French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain and are also chasing Juventus' duo of Adrien Rabiot or Douglas Costa and they are putting the French star up for a swap.
Legit.ng earlier reported that former Barcelona goal poacher Samuel Eto’o has advised his ex team-mate Xavi to return to the Spanish club while Lionel Messi is still playing there, GOAL reports.
Eto’o also told the club that Luis Suarez’ efforts should not be understated because it will be a very herculean task to find a formidable replacement for the Uruguayan star.
The Cameroonian backed Xavi for a return to the club possibly as a member of the coaching crew saying he should take advantage that Messi is still there, as he described the Argentine as the “God of Football”.
