President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Kamaru Usman for successfully defending his UFC welterweight belt against Jorge Masvidal.
It was Kamaru's second defence of the UFC welterweight championship and he did it in style to dominate the American martial artist in all rounds.
And this victory has been appreciated by the number one citizen of Nigeria President Buhari who said his victory lifted the spirits of the people in the country despite the pandemic.
The President released a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
The statement read: “As the first African-born and Nigerian UFC champion, Presisent Buhari commends the courageous fighter for finishing strong inside the octagon, proudly flying the green and white colours in distant lands, and reminding the world that good things and great people still come out of Nigeria.
“While the global COVID-19 pandemic may have brought gloom to many families and nations, the President is delighted and gratified that our welterweight champion has lifted our spirits with another professional performance proving that things will surely get better at the fullness of time when we remain committed to our vision.
“The President wishes Usman the very best and more victories in his career and prays that like fine wine, he improves with age.”
Usman took his winning streak to 12 in the UFC and the Nigerian Nightmare is ranked among the top five fighters will the longest victories.
All three judges scored the bout in favour of the 33-year-old as his wrestling technique was too good for Masvidal to handle.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Kamaru Usman retained his UFC welterweight championship following a unanimous point decision win over Jorge Masvidal.
The Nigerian Nightmare successfully defended his belt as he dominated most part of the rounds with his unique wrestling ability.
As expected, the match produced fireworks with the champion scoring a take a down in the first round but the American got himself back from the lock.
Legit.ng also reported that Kamaru Usman could be facing off with Jorge Masvidal in just about a week as reports emerge that UFC has probably sealed dramatic talks with both fighters.
