- Brighton vs Manchester City ended in a whitewash for the home side
- Raheem Sterling scored a hat-trick to make it his 27th in all competitions this season
- Gabriel Jesus and Bernardo Silva also found the back of the net for the Citizens
It was more of a one-sided encounter on Saturday night when hosts Brighton conceded five goals to visitors Manchester City with Raheem Sterling getting three goals.
Pep Guardiola's men move to 72 points on the table and have now confirmed their position as second while Chelsea who lost to Sheffield could move out of the top four if Leicester City and Manchester United win their next games respectively.
But City looked so bright from the first blast of the whistle and in the 21st minute, Raheem Sterling fired a low drive into the bottom right-hand corner from the edge of the penalty area to give his side a well deserved lead.
And it was 2-0 in the 44th minute when Gabriel Jesus tapped the ball over the line from two yards out after Rodri had directed a header from a corner goalwards.
Eight minutes after the restart, Raheem Sterling converted a free header at the back post, getting on the end of a curling cross from Bernardo Silva to make it 3-0.
Bernardo Silva made it 4-0 four minutes later when he slotted home from close range before Raheem Sterling completed his hat-trick when the ball somehow found the back of his head and then rolled into the net. It ended: Brighton 0-5 Manchester City.
The rout becomes the 32nd time Manchester City have scored 4+ goals in a Premier League game under Pep Guardiola - since the start of 2016/17, this is more than any other Premier League side.
With the victory, Manchester City are 21 points behing champions Liverpool and 12 above chelsea in third.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United vs Chelsea ended in 3-0 in favour of the Blades as they moved up to sixth on the Premier League table. David McGoldrick scored two goals in each half of the match as Oliver McBurnie also got his name on the scoresheet at Bramall Lane.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech has arrived Stamford Bridge as he was pictured training with the Blues for the first time on Saturday, July 11.
Chelsea had in February agreed to terms with Dutch champions Ajax over the signing of Moroccan midfielder for a fee reported to be £45million.
Ziyech will not feature in Chelsea’s final four games this season, but will get himself up to speed ahead of the quick turnaround before the next campaign.
