- There are rumours that the former PDP national chairman is set to take over the reins in the APC
A former governor of Borno state, Ali Modu Sheriff on Thursday, July 9, visited the national secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), sparking rumours that he plans to contest for the office of the national chairman of the party.
Sheriff is a former senator and former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A number of media reports had last week reported that some forces loyal to Sheriff within the APC were scheming to tinker with the zoning formula, in which case the office of the national chairman would be zoned to the north ahead of the party’s national convention.
Sheriff arrived at the secretariat at about 4.15 pm but declined to speak to journalists on his mission and left at about 4:30 pm.
According to Sahara Reporters, Sheriff is already reaching out to critical stakeholders in the party in relation to his ambition to contest as the APC national chairman.
The visit of Sheriff to the APC national secretariat is already a trending topic on social media.

Taiye Best wrote on Nairaland: "Ali Modu Sheriff has finished work in the PDP, so maybe he is back to jeopardize the APC. He wants to start another scenario he brought up with the PDP chairmanship before the 2015 election. He needs to be stopped."

Meanwhile, chairman of the caretaker committee of the APC, Governor Mai Mala Buni on Thursday, July 2 led members of the committee to visit the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Buni and his team were in Lagos to see Tinubu in their bid to achieve reconciliation in the party and carry all stakeholders along in their quest for unifying the party after a turbulent period witnessed recently.
