Ondo deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, has declared that the plot by some members of the state house of assembly to impeach him won't succeed.
Ajayi made the comment when he spoke to Sahara Reporters on Monday, July 6.
He said he had yet to be served the impeachment notice by the state lawmakers, adding that he considers the impeachment notice as a rumour.
His words: “It is a kangaroo impeachment notice and it is even dead on arrival and I don't know how the Assembly wants to go about it.
“I have not been officially served a copy of the impeachment notice and people are already reporting it.”
Legit.ng had earlier reported that the state house of Assembly have commenced impeachment process against Ajayi weeks after he defected from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The embattled deputy governor was served an impeachment notice on Tuesday, July 7, by the lawmakers over alleged gross gross misconduct.
The deputy governor's counsel had on Monday, July 6, filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja seeking to halt the impeachment proceeding and enforce his fundamental right of association.
The deputy governor had also claimed that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu gave 19 out of the 23 lawmakers in the state N10 million to offer their signature for his removal.
Meanwhile, the planned impeachment of Ajayi recently suffered a setback as nine members of the state assembly signed against the move.
Political opponents in the state have also alleged that Governor Akeredolu offered 14 Ondo lawmakers N10million each to impeach his deputy.
The impeachment of the embattled deputy governor commenced after he said Governor Akeredolu has the constitutional mandate to hand over power to him as the governor was then in self-isolation having tested positive for coronavirus.
Governor Akeredolu has since recovered from the dreaded disease.
While the back and forth between the governor and his deputy was ongoing, Ifedayo Abegunde resigned as the Secretary to the Ondo State Government.
Abegunde popularly known as Abena resigned his appointment as the SSG on Monday morning, July 6.
