- Eric Dier was involved in a row with fans during an FA Cup game with Norwich in March
- The Tottenham star was seen as he dashed into the crowd to face-off with a fan
- Dier has received a four-match ban and will also pay a fine of £40,000
The English FA has charged Tottenham star Eric Dier for breaching FA Rule E3 after footage show him confronting fans in the stands.
Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw against Norwich in the fifth round of the competition, forcing the match into extra time.
However, the match had to be decided through post-match penalties after neither side failed to score a win in extra time.
Tottenham subsequently lost the match in the shootouts, with Eric Lamela, Troy Parrott and Gedson Fernandes all missing their spot-kicks.
But the match was punctuated with dramatic scenes at the blow of the whistle as Dier got physical with a fan who had allegedly insulted him.
The player has now received a four-match ban and fined £40,000 after he was found to be in breach of FA Rule E3.
"Eric Dier has been suspended for four matches with immediate effect, fined £40,000 and warned as to his future conduct following a breach of FA Rule E3," read a statement from the FA.
“An independent Regulatory Commission subsequently found Eric Dier’s actions to be threatening.”
Legit.ng earlier reported that Jose Mourinho has frowned at Eric Dier's behaviour for confronting a Tottenham fan who allegedly insulted his family shortly after their FA Cup defeat to Norwich, cited in Goal and Twitter.
The England midfielder was caught on camera running after a Spurs fan in the stands who allegedly insulted him after the penalty loss.
A video clip revealed the incident, but it was not clear what Dier's intent was, until Mourinho explained in a post-match interview why his player was emotional.
“I don’t think that belongs to the game. The game was a fantastic representation of the FA Cup, but I cannot run away from the question," Mourinho said.
