- The political feud between Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his deputy on Tuesday hit the climax
- Ondo state lawmakers have begun processes to impeach Agboola Ajayi over "gross misconduct"
- There is a heavy presence of security operatives at the House of Assembly complex
There is anxiety in Ondo as lawmakers of the state house of Assembly have commenced impeachment process against Alfred Agboola Ajayi, the state deputy governor.
Ajayi, who recently defected from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been at loggerhead with the state governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
The embattled deputy governor was served an impeachment notice on Tuesday, July 7, by the lawmakers over alleged gross gross misconduct.
Security operatives were also said to have arrived the premises of the assembly in order to prevent the breakdown of law.
Legit.ng gathers that fourteen lawmakers have supported the impeachment of Ajayi, with the process said to be inspired by the state governor.
The commencement of the impeachment came less than twenty-four hours after Ajayi sued the Ondo state assembly over plans to impeach him amid clashes of political interest highlighting the forthcoming election in the state.
Other defendants in the suit filed by Agboola before the court were the inspector-general of police Mohammed Adamu, state commissioner of police, Department of State Services (DSS) and the speaker of the Assembly, David Oleyeloogun.
Agboola has signified interest to participate in the Ondo state election in what may pitch him against his estranged boss if he eventually wins PDP ticket.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that with less than four months to the guber election in Ondo, Governor Akeredolu has laid blames on his deputy, saying he is being hunted by the nemesis of his lies.
Recall that Agboola had alleged plots to impeach him by the governor, claiming that Akeredolu gave 19 out of the 23 lawmakers in the state N10 million to offer their signature for his removal.
Speaking through his media aide, Allen Sowore, Agboola also claimed that there was an attempt by the governor to impeach the speaker of Ondo state House of Assembly, Bamidele Oloyeloogun.
But in his reaction, Governor Akeredolu described Agboola's claims as illogical and lies flying in the face of facts.
